A known issue with users that have some kind of cleaner/optimizer app on the device and it's set to remove "large/big" files automatically.

The dictionary database is one large file that provides offline access so these "optimization" apps directly target it every day. The simple remedy is to change the setting of the cleaner app.

Cleaner apps normally have access to clear Data and Cache as well. You may need to disable clear data if that's done automatically which will also wipe out the offline database of the dictionary.

Samsung's "Device care/Storage booster" & "Files by Google", as well as "Phone Master" are commonly known to cause this.

If your dictionary database freezes at a certain percentage and does not download fully, you have to clear the App Cache/Storage. Here are the instructions how to do so:

  • Open the Settings of your phone.
  • Tap the Storage heading to open its settings page
  • If your phone runs Android Oreo or earlier, you'll want to open the App Manager settings page.
  • Tap the Other Apps heading to see a list of your installed apps.
  • Find the application you want to clear the cache of and tap its listing.
  • Tap the Clear cache button.
The second way of clearing the App Cache is:
  • Long hold on the app icon
  • Tap on App info
  • Tap on Storage -> Tap on the Clear Data/Clear Cache buttons

Another reason for the download freezing would be the fact that you may not have enough space in your Storage facility. We would recommend freeing some space on your device so the download could proceed. This could be done from your Device Settings when you tap on the Storage or Memory section or manually.

Google releases new versions of android with a year cycle. In process of which developers write some more useful API, methods, classes which are powerful than existing one. So app developers need to use newly written API’s and depricate old methods.

Android 5 and lower are officially no longer supported by Google and that affects our dictionaries as well. So the way around this is to update to Android 6 or higher.
